History of Dr Rolf and her legacy with Structural integration.
Dr Ida P Rolf the founder of Structural Integration earned her Phd in Biochemistry from the University of Columbia in the 1920s. In the 1930’s, challenged by a friend’s disabilities and dissatisfied with the available medical treatments she decided to explore other types of treatments such as Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Yoga, Alexander technique and Homeopathic medicine. During the 1940’s she had developed and worked on her ideas and achieved many breakthroughs with the work she did on chronically disabled persons who were unable to find help elsewhere. During her scientific research, she made a fundamental discovery about the body: The same network of connective tissue that contains and links the muscular system when it’s healthy, can be reshaped when it’s been pulled out of a proper running order. Dr Rolf began a life-long search for effective methods to encourage well-being in the human body, forming her own school of Structural Integration 45 years later.
